<\/p>That\u2019s the refrain of my children\u2014what took you so long? It is also the refrain I have to myself, lately, as I finally launch my new website.\u00a0Although I hate to admit it, I\u2019ve been working on this site for more than a year. My goodness, you may say, what has taken you so long?\n

So\u00a0many of us in business for ourselves don\u2019t put our needs first\u2014the cobblers children have no shoes.<\/p>\n

Maybe more importantly, marketing yourself is hard\u2014even if you are a marketer. Here\u2019s my theory why:<\/p>\n

\u201cFools names and fools face often appear in public places.\u201d My mom used to say that to me whenever we saw an autograph wall in a restroom. And it stuck with me. My old website was fairly sedate. Attractively designed, but really behind the scenes. The new website puts ME out there. Not only what I do, but my face. Yikes.

\u201cDon\u2019t brag.\u201d I have probably heard that coming out of my mouth when talking to my own children. We\u2019re taught not to brag as kids, but when in business for yourself, bragging is marketing. Yet, wait, I\u2019m not supposed to brag, right Mom?<\/li>\n
\u201cIf you build it, they will come.\u201d Evidently, I\u2019m into trite sayings today. I think part of the reason I have drug my feet on launching this new website is fear. Whether fear of being noticed or of not being noticed, I can\u2019t say.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n
